How to Apply for Jobs Abroad From Bangladesh

By The Job Alert Team · September 17, 2026

Bangladesh sends somewhere between six hundred thousand and a million workers abroad in a given year, and the state has built a fairly complete apparatus around that: a registration database, a training network, a welfare fund, a state-owned recruiting agency and published cost ceilings. The applicants who get hurt are almost always the ones who go around that apparatus rather than through it.

Register with BMET first

The Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training under the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment maintains the national database of migrant workers. Registration is the foundation of every later step.

  • Register online or at a District Employment and Manpower Office (DEMO) with your NID and passport details.
  • Registration produces a BMET smart card, and no legitimate departure for overseas employment happens without BMET clearance recorded against it.
  • Registration also enrols you with the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board, which is what pays for repatriation, injury compensation and support to your family if something goes wrong.

Anyone who tells you the smart card is optional, or offers to depart you on a visit visa and “arrange the work permit later”, is proposing something that strips you of every protection listed above.

Documents, and the attestation order

DocumentNotes
Passport, 12+ months validitySpelling must match your NID exactly
National ID (NID)Corrections take weeks; do them first
Academic certificatesAttested by the education board or university, then the Ministry of Education, then the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then the destination mission
Skill or trade certificateFrom a Technical Training Centre, BTEB or an NSDA-recognised assessor — this is what raises your wage bracket
Experience lettersLetterhead, duties, dates, contactable referee
Police clearance certificateApplied for through the local police, then MOFA-attested for most destinations
Medical fitness certificateThrough the approved medical centre network for Gulf destinations, not a walk-in clinic
Signed contractSalary, hours, overtime, leave, accommodation, food and return airfare all stated in writing

Attestation is sequential, exactly as in the education-ministry chain above. A stamp obtained out of order is a stamp you pay for twice.

The skill certificate is the highest-leverage document you can get

A worker who arrives with a recognised trade certificate is paid on a different scale from one who arrives as unskilled labour, for the same trade. BMET’s Technical Training Centres run courses in welding, electrical, plumbing, tiling, driving, garments machine operation, caregiving and housekeeping, plus language courses for the Korean and Japanese routes.

Three to six months of training that lifts your monthly wage bracket pays for itself inside the first contract. It is the single cheapest improvement available in this corridor.

Which markets actually recruit from Bangladesh

MarketWhat is hiringRoute
Saudi ArabiaConstruction, cleaning, drivers, domestic work, agricultureLicensed agency, occasionally direct
UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, KuwaitConstruction, hospitality, security, facility managementMostly agency-mediated
MalaysiaManufacturing, plantation, constructionGovernment-to-government arrangement, quota-controlled
SingaporeConstruction, marine, processRequires the destination’s own skills test
JordanGarment manufacturing, heavily female workforceEmployer plus licensed agency
South KoreaManufacturing under the Employment Permit SystemEPS-TOPIK Korean test, lottery and quota
JapanCaregiving, food processing, construction, agricultureSpecified-skilled-worker scheme: skills test plus Japanese
Romania, Croatia, PolandDrivers, construction, food processingEU work permit via employer

The Gulf and Malaysia dominate by volume. Korea and Japan pay several times more, are decided by tests rather than by brokers, and are therefore the routes worth preparing for early if you are young and can study.

Cost: what is lawful and what is not

Government sets a maximum migration cost per destination, and it is published. The gap between that ceiling and what informal brokers charge — often three to five times more — is the central problem of this corridor.

Protect yourself with four habits:

  • Deal only with a recruiting agency holding a current BMET licence. The licence list is public.
  • Get a money receipt for every payment, in the agency’s name, on the agency’s letterhead.
  • Pay into a company account, never a personal bKash or bank account.
  • Ask about Probashi Kallyan Bank migration loans before borrowing from a private lender at village rates. The state bank exists precisely to keep families off that ladder.

Consider BOESL, the state-owned recruiting agency, before private options. Its placements are fewer and slower, but its charges are a fraction of the private market’s, particularly on the Korea and Jordan routes.

Warning signs

  • A visa sold without a named employer, a job title and a written salary.
  • A “free visa” — no such category exists in any Gulf labour law.
  • Two contracts: one shown in Dhaka, one produced on arrival.
  • An agent holding your passport, or refusing to record you in the BMET system.
  • Recruitment for a country whose labour market is currently closed to Bangladeshi workers. Closures and reopenings happen; confirm the current status before paying.

A realistic timeline

WeeksStage
1–4NID and passport alignment, BMET registration
2–20Trade or language training, if you are taking that route
4–12Certificate attestation chain
6–16Applications, interviews, offer, contract review
12–20Medical, visa, BMET clearance and smart card, departure briefing, travel

Three to six months is normal for a Gulf placement. Korea and Japan are one to two years, almost all of it study.

Searching directly

Direct application is more possible than the broker economy admits, especially in the UAE and Qatar where employers advertise openly and interview by video. Search in the destination’s vocabulary — vacancy rather than opening, storekeeper, helper, steel fixer, caregiver — because those are the words the listings themselves use.

You can set your search country in Job Alert and browse listings from Dhaka with no account; every result opens the employer’s own posting, which is also the fastest way to confirm the company is real. How those listings reach the app is set out in where listings come from, and the same corridor logic applied elsewhere is in how to apply for jobs abroad from Pakistan.

Migration rules, cost ceilings and country openings change frequently, and nothing here is legal advice. Confirm every step with BMET, your DEMO office and the destination mission before you pay anyone anything.
